Résumé & Interview Workshop

 

Monday, April 18, 2016 @ 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Harry Stone Recreation Center, 2403 Millmar Dr.

 

At the workshop, our goal is to help job seekers get ready for their next job. We will conduct résumé reviews, mock interviews, and host instruction sessions on marketing yourself and utilizing social media. Primarily, these sessions will be taught by HR professionals and career counselors who have decades of experience in this field.

 

Here is the agenda for the event: 

 

  • 10:00 a.m. Introduction with the entire group 

  • 10:15 a.m. Instruction on introducing yourself and interview advice with the entire group

  • 10:30 a.m. Introduction of service providers with the entire group

  • 10:45 a.m. Breakout sessions / visiting service providers

  • 12:00 p.m. Workshop concludes

 

Breakout sessions (20 min each) include: 

 

  • Résumé formatting & editing – small group instruction. Marketing yourself, the benefits of including professional or academic references, advice for completing an application

  • Introducing yourself – small group instruction and practice groups. What your handshake says about you, what distinguishes you from others, delivering a memorable introduction

  • Social media – small group instruction. A review of privacy settings on social media, the benefits of a LinkedIn profile, cleaning up your social media identity

  • One-on-one sessions to review résumés for formatting, grammar, punctuation and keywords

  • One-on-one sessions offering career coaching, practice interviews

  • Individual meetings with service providers 

 

Event logistics: 

 

  • Attendees should plan to arrive before 10:00 a.m. The workshop begins at 10:00 a.m. 

  • Resources and volunteers should plan to arrive no later than 9:30 a.m.

  • The Recreation Center has a parking lot in the front and the back of the facility. Overflow parking is available on the street. We are expecting a large crowd, so please plan accordingly.

 

What should you bring to the workshop?

 

  • If you would like help editing your résumé or cover letter, bring a draft of your résuméand/or cover letter

  • Bring a pen and paper to take notes

  • Bring a positive attitude and an open mind

 

What will you leave with after attending the workshop? 

 

  • You will receive the full list of employers who will attend the April 20th job fair. The list will also include the employer's name, the person's name who is responsible for hiring, and the available positions. 

  • Contacts from the attending service providers

  • Information from the break-out sessions

  • A competitive edge over the other job seekers

  • Confidence!
