The Opportunity Works Job & Resource Fair is an effort of a small Dallas crime watch group to get people back to work. The Safe Streets Collaborative crime watch began about three years ago in the Ferguson - Woodmeadow area of Northeast Dallas, Texas, initiated by a collaboration between the Community Prosecution Division of the Dallas City Attorney's Office and the Dallas Police Department. The crime watch group is composed of apartment managers and business owners who want to create a cleaner, healthier, and safer community.
The first job fair was hosted in April 2014 and featured 85 employers and resources and approximately 1,200 job seekers. Employers reported that approximately one third of their available jobs were filled by the job fair's candidates. In 2015, 110 employers and resources attended!
The job fair was made possible by donations to the crime watch from local businesses and donations of time from countless volunteers. The event was advertised on social media, by word of mouth, and from donated time and space from our local papers and radio stations. The last two years, we also provided lunch to all of our vendors, volunteers and job seekers at the event.
Below, you will see 2015's partners who made this free event possible.
